Tottenham Secures Omar Marmoush on Loan from Manchester City
Tottenham Hotspur have reached a full agreement with Manchester City to sign Omar Marmoush on an initial loan that will turn into a big-money permanent move, according to The Athletic.
The 27-year-old Egypt international will join on a temporary basis first, but Spurs are locked into a mandatory purchase clause worth a fixed £50m, plus a further £10m in potential add-ons. Half of those bonuses are described as easily achievable. Marmoush is set to sign a four-year contract in north London with an option for an extra 12 months, and there is no sell-on percentage owed to his former club Eintracht Frankfurt.
From Etihad frustration to Spurs lifeline
A departure from the Etihad had been looming for Marmoush after a frustrating spell of limited minutes. He only arrived in Manchester in January 2025, a headline attacking addition at the time, but never truly established himself as a regular starter.
His switch to Spurs comes hot on the heels of the club’s £85m capture of Brazilian winger Savinho, a long-term target finally landed after a chase that stretched back to last year. The message from Tottenham’s hierarchy is blunt: the attack is being torn up and rebuilt.
Marmoush scored eight goals in 36 appearances in all competitions last season. In the league, though, he was often on the fringes — just eight starts and 13 outings from the bench. For a forward signed to be a central figure, the numbers told their own story.
City had originally committed up to €75m (£63m) to prise him from Frankfurt, where he had exploded with 20 goals in 26 games in the first half of the 2024-25 campaign. That form persuaded City to move aggressively. At first, it looked inspired: seven goals in his first 16 matches hinted at a seamless transition.
Then the momentum stalled. Competition for places bit hard, his minutes shrank, and his last competitive appearance came as a substitute for Erling Haaland in the 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal on 16 August. From there, the writing was on the wall.
A £300m statement summer
Marmoush’s arrival pushes Spurs’ summer spending well beyond the £300m mark. The Egyptian joins a crowded list of new faces: Savinho, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke, plus free-transfer additions Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka.
This is not tinkering. It is a reset.
Tottenham will now put Marmoush through his medical in the capital before finalising the paperwork ahead of the transfer deadline. The club expect no delays at this stage, with all major terms already agreed between the parties.
Inside the camp, Roberto De Zerbi and his staff see Marmoush as a key piece in a new-look frontline. His ability to operate across the attack — centrally or drifting wide — is viewed as crucial for a squad facing a heavy schedule and in need of fresh tactical options.
Urgency after back-to-back struggles
The urgency is understandable. Spurs are coming off consecutive 17th-place finishes in the Premier League, a stark fall for a club that once measured itself against the top four. Goals dried up, belief followed, and the atmosphere around the team soured.
So the rebuild has come at speed. Savinho to stretch defences. Tonali to control the tempo. Robertson and Senesi to add experience and steel. Now Marmoush, tasked with reigniting his own career while helping to revive a club that has drifted dangerously close to the wrong end of the table.
Tottenham are betting big that this version of Marmoush looks more like the ruthless finisher from Frankfurt than the frustrated squad player from City. If they’re right, the narrative around their season could change quickly. If they’re wrong, how many more chances will this project get?
