Tottenham Signs Omar Marmoush for £50million Deal
Tottenham are closing in on the signing of Omar Marmoush after agreeing a big-money deal with Manchester City that underlines the scale of their rebuild under Roberto De Zerbi.
The Egyptian forward is due to undergo a medical after the clubs settled on a loan with an obligation to buy, a structure that masks what is effectively a major long-term commitment.
Standard Sport understands Spurs will be tied to an obligation worth an initial £50million, with £5m in guaranteed add-ons and a further £5m in additional bonuses. Marmoush is expected to sign a four-year contract, with an option for a fifth season.
Separate from Savio – but part of a statement window
This move is not linked to the £85m signing of Savio, Marmoush’s former Manchester City team-mate, who completed his switch to Spurs on Tuesday. Savio is already available to make his debut in the Carabao Cup second-round tie at home to Charlton tonight, giving De Zerbi an early look at one of his headline arrivals.
Marmoush’s transfer stands alone financially and structurally. Despite speculation, there is no sell-on clause due to his former club Eintracht Frankfurt.
A point to prove after stalled City spell
Marmoush arrives with something to chase. He joined City only in January 2025 and made a sharp early impression, but could not turn that into a regular starting role. His minutes quickly dried up and he slipped down the pecking order in Pep Guardiola’s attack.
Last season he managed just eight Premier League starts, though he still finished with eight goals in 36 appearances across all competitions. The numbers hint at potential rather than the finished article, but Spurs believe they are buying upside at a premium price.
Marmoush, for his part, is not coming to make up the numbers. He is understood to be confident he can force his way past Richarlison and Dominic Solanke to become De Zerbi’s first-choice centre-forward.
Spurs’ spending passes £300m
The deal pushes Tottenham’s already aggressive summer outlay into eye-catching territory. With Marmoush set to follow Savio through the door, Spurs’ spending has now surged beyond £300m, after the arrivals of Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke.
De Zerbi wanted a sharper, more flexible forward line. With Marmoush on the way and Savio already in the building, he is about to find out whether this expensive overhaul can deliver the edge Spurs have been missing.
