Tottenham’s Transfer Blitz: De Zerbi Embraces New Signings
Tottenham’s transfer blitz shows no sign of slowing, and Roberto De Zerbi is loving every second of it.
After a summer of heavy spending, Spurs have landed a double attacking coup, bringing in Sávio from Manchester City in a deal worth £85 million and Omar Marmoush on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy that could rise to £60m. Those two moves alone would headline most windows. At Tottenham, they’re simply the latest chapter in a spree that has now pushed the club’s outlay past £350m.
De Zerbi, though, is not complaining. Far from it.
“Bomba” arrivals light up De Zerbi’s attack
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Newcastle, the Italian could barely hide his excitement when asked about his new forwards.
“I think Sávio and Marmoush are bomba,” he said. “I don't know what name or how you can call them but players of a high level, for sure.”
Sávio arrives as the marquee signing, the kind of statement fee that signals Tottenham’s intent to stay at the top table. Marmoush, meanwhile, comes with numbers that command respect: 37 goals at Eintracht Frankfurt, 16 at Manchester City, and a reputation as a relentless, direct threat in the final third.
For a side juggling James Maddison’s fitness issues and easing Mohammed Kudus back from injury, that extra firepower is not a luxury. It’s a necessity.
One more piece to find
You might think that after a window like this, the manager would be begging for a breather. De Zerbi is doing the opposite. He confirmed Spurs are still pushing to add at least one more signing before Tuesday night’s deadline.
“I didn't expect one transfer market and one window like we have done,” he admitted. “I think we can do one player more and in one specific position.”
The talks are active and, crucially, aligned. De Zerbi revealed he met the club’s hierarchy over dinner on Thursday, sitting down with the owners, Vinai Venkatesham, Johan Lange and Enrico Venturelli to thrash out the final days of the window.
“We spoke about this, but we have all of us on the same page and there is a very good connection,” he said.
The message is clear: there will be no late panic buys, only targeted moves to complete a squad already reshaped at speed and scale.
Marmoush to sharpen the cutting edge
If Sávio is the headline, Marmoush might be the signing that changes the feel of Tottenham’s attack.
The Egyptian international arrives in London with a proven eye for goal and the versatility to operate across the frontline. De Zerbi expects him to raise standards immediately.
“A great signing for us. A great player, another great player and every one of us loves him as a player,” the head coach said. “We hope he can do what he is able. I think he can give more solutions in attack.”
That phrase — “more solutions in attack” — is where De Zerbi’s vision comes into focus. He wants forwards who can score, combine, and stretch defences, not just finish moves but help create them.
“We need players in attack capable to score goals, to play well with the ball also, a very fast player, great qualities and we are all happy,” he added.
With Sávio’s flair, Marmoush’s directness and Kudus and Maddison to weave between the lines, Tottenham’s front line is being rebuilt to overwhelm opponents rather than simply edge them.
Newcastle will be the first to feel the impact of this revamped attack. The real question is how far this bold, expensive and aggressive rebuild can carry Spurs once the window finally slams shut.
