Troy Parrott’s moment of class lit up Seville on Thursday night as Real Betis edged past Getafe to climb into La Liga’s top three.

Parrott, left on the bench and unused in Monday’s win at Villarreal, made his chance count this time. Twice he went close himself, first trying his luck from the centre circle and later finding space inside the box, only to be denied.

The breakthrough arrived when he chose the selfless option. Spotting Abde Ezzalzouli in a better position, the Dubliner slipped a precise, composed pass into the winger’s path. Ezzalzouli did the rest, finishing what proved to be the only goal of the game.

That single strike was enough to move Betis up to third after six rounds, just three points off leaders Barcelona, and to keep the momentum building in Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

Next up is a trip to Deportivo de A Coruna on Sunday evening (5.30pm Irish time), Betis’ final domestic outing before the month-long international break. Parrott will then switch focus back to Ireland, aiming to carry this sharp club form into their UEFA Nations League push.
