Tyrell Malacia Joins FC Cincinnati from Manchester United

FC Cincinnati have moved to strengthen their back line with the signing of former Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old Netherlands international arrives after his contract with United expired at the end of last season, ending an injury-disrupted spell in England. His deal in MLS runs until next June, with an option that could keep him at the club through the 2027-28 campaign.

Malacia joined United from Feyenoord in 2022 and made 50 appearances for the 20-time English champions, but repeated fitness issues stalled what had been billed as a long-term role on the left side of their defence.

Now he gets a reset.

"We are excited to add a player of Tyrell's experience," said FC Cincinnati general manager Chris Albright. "He's played at the highest levels of the game and understands the demands of competing in those environments.

"His quality on the ball, defensive instincts, and team-first mentality is a welcome addition to the group and we're happy to have him in Cincinnati."

For a club with serious ambitions in MLS, Malacia’s arrival signals intent: a defender schooled in European competition, with something to prove and time still on his side.
