Wayne Rooney Teams Up with Mark Goldbridge for New United Show
Wayne Rooney is set to front a new Manchester United-focused show this season, teaming up with influencer Mark Goldbridge in a move that pulls together two very different corners of the club’s fanbase.
The former United and England captain will co-host Stick to United with Wayne Rooney, a new programme under Gary Neville’s The Overlap banner. Rooney is already a regular voice on The Overlap’s Stick to Football show, but this is the first time he will anchor a dedicated United series.
Rooney, Goldbridge and The Overlap collide
The link-up comes after Neville bought Goldbridge’s YouTube channels earlier this year, bringing The United Stand and That's Football into The Overlap network for a reported seven-figure fee, undisclosed by the parties involved.
Goldbridge – real name Brent di Cesare – has built one of the biggest fan-led platforms in English football, with more than 3.8 million followers across his two YouTube channels. His clips, fuelled by animated reactions and blunt opinions, regularly go viral and have made him a lightning rod in the online fan culture around United.
Neville, who founded The Overlap in 2021, has steadily grown the brand beyond football into sports such as cricket and rugby. This latest move brings one of the most prominent fan voices directly under his umbrella.
The new show sits at the heart of a major distribution deal with Disney+. The streaming service will carry 50 episodes of Stick to United and 40 episodes of Stick to Football across the season, significantly boosting The Overlap’s reach. Neville has framed the tie-up as a way to grow the platform’s audience while, in his words, “expands our reach without compromising our identity”.
From critic of fan channels to owning one
Neville’s acquisition of Goldbridge’s channels marks a striking shift from his earlier stance on fan media. He previously criticised ArsenalFanTV, branding it “embarrassing” after supporters on the channel tore into Arsene Wenger following a 3-1 defeat by Chelsea in 2017.
That sparked a public spat on Twitter between Neville and the ArsenalFanTV team, before he later appeared on the channel to explain his position. Seven years on, he now co-chairs a company that has paid heavily to bring one of the biggest fan-led football brands into its stable.
Rooney’s growing media portfolio
For Rooney, the new United show adds another layer to an increasingly busy media schedule. The Wayne Rooney Show will return to BBC platforms this season, while he continues in his established punditry role on Match of the Day.
A club legend sitting alongside a fan-channel firebrand, backed by Neville and streamed on Disney+. For Manchester United’s global audience, this is where the modern football conversation is heading – and this season, it will be impossible to ignore.
