The World Cup 2026 Round of 32 has kicked off, and the lineup for the Round of 16 is beginning to emerge. Seven teams have advanced after winning their opening knockout matches, while notable squads like Japan, Germany, and the Netherlands have already exited the tournament.
The top two teams from each of the 12 groups moved forward automatically, joined by the tournament’s eight best third-place finishers. The competition now shifts from group standings to knockout rounds where every match means elimination or survival.

Switzerland led Group B and will play Algeria in the Round of 32. Canada came in second and meets South Africa Sunday in Los Angeles. Bosnia and Herzegovina also progressed as one of the top third-place teams and faces the USA Wednesday in Santa Clara. Qatar exited after finishing last.
Group C
Qualified: Brazil, MoroccoEliminated: Haiti, Scotland
Brazil topped Group C and faces Japan Monday in Houston. Morocco secured second and plays the Netherlands Monday in Monterrey, Mexico. Scotland's third place wasn’t enough to advance, and Haiti left the tournament winless.
Group D
Qualified: USA, Australia, ParaguayEliminated: Türkiye
USA leads Group D and will meet Bosnia and Herzegovina Wednesday in Santa Clara. Australia drew with Paraguay and took second place, setting up a match against Egypt July 3 in Dallas. Paraguay moves on as a top third-place team to face Germany Monday in Boston.
