Wrexham Ready for Championship Clash Against Swansea City

Phil Parkinson insists Wrexham will walk into Swansea City on Saturday as a very different Championship animal to the one that left south Wales stung last season.

The Red Dragons were edged out 2-1 by Mitor Matos’ side in December, a defeat that hurt at the time but did little to derail their rise. Wrexham regrouped, surged through the second half of the campaign and finished seventh in 2025-26 – their highest placing in the second tier.

Now comes another trip to Swansea, this time with the hosts sitting top of the Championship. The Swans have taken 10 points from a possible 12 and set the early pace, the Liberty crowd ready for another statement night under the lights at 20:00 BST.

Parkinson, though, sees a different Wrexham to the one that folded late on in that “gut-wrenching” loss last term. The clearest evidence, in his eyes, came in midweek.

His side dismantled Millwall 3-0 away from home, a scoreline that did more than just bank three points. It told a story of control.

Asked whether Wrexham are better equipped now than on their last visit to Swansea, Parkinson did not hesitate.

“Absolutely,” he said. “The Millwall game is a good example of that, where we won 2-0 down there last year and we beat them 3-0 this year.

“But they were very different games in terms of the control we had in the game this time around.

“We looked to a more accomplished Championship side this time around. The players have got used to the level and of course we've added quality into the group.”

The numbers back him up: same opponent, same ground, bigger margin, greater authority. For Parkinson, it is not about the headline scoreline, but the way his team now manage big away fixtures, dictate tempo and handle pressure.

Swansea, top of the table and confident, will test that new-found maturity. Wrexham arrive believing they no longer just belong in the Championship. They look, and feel, like they can shape it.
