Wrexham's Impressive 3-0 Victory at Millwall
Phil Parkinson has, for now, silenced the noise.
Under scrutiny after a stuttering start to the season, the Wrexham manager watched his side walk into The Den, dominate Millwall and walk out with a ruthless 3-0 win – their first Championship victory of the campaign and a statement that carried more weight than just three points.
Critics answered at The Den
Before this trip to south London, Wrexham were winless in four across all competitions and still searching for a first clean sheet. The questions had started to sharpen. Ex-Wales striker Iwan Roberts had gone as far as to suggest Parkinson was "probably under pressure for the first time" since taking charge in 2021.
The response could hardly have been more emphatic.
Former captain Ben Tozer, who knows the inner workings of the dressing room as well as anyone after 136 appearances and back-to-back promotions with the club, called it what it was: a “perfect away performance”.
“Parkinson has been questioned after their start,” Tozer told BBC Radio Wales. “But he will have known there was a response coming from the team and he made the right changes – bringing back [Max] Cleworth and [Josh] Windass – to get that response.”
The tweaks mattered. The attitude did the rest.
Control, clean sheet, and a crowd turning
Millwall, beaten play-off semi-finalists last season, usually relish nights like this at The Den. The atmosphere can smother visiting teams. Instead, it turned on the hosts early.
“That was pretty much the perfect away performance at a really tough place to play that saw the home crowd turn on their team pretty early,” Tozer said.

“They controlled the game, even at three-nil,” Tozer added, highlighting how Wrexham never let Millwall back in, even with the result effectively sealed. The substitutes kept the tempo high, the press honest, the energy relentless. There was no sense of a side simply hanging on to what they had.
Parkinson’s pattern: questions and answers
This is not the first time Parkinson has been doubted during his Wrexham tenure. It is also not the first time he has answered.
“Parkinson has often been questioned, but he always comes up with the answers,” Tozer said, a line that will resonate with supporters who have ridden the club’s rapid climb with him.
At Millwall, those answers came in the form of bold selection calls, a defensive reset, and a performance that looked every inch like a Championship side finding its feet.
The early-season questions have not vanished. A long campaign stretches ahead. But on a difficult night, in a hostile stadium, Wrexham’s manager and his players delivered the kind of response that changes the tone of a season in a single, brutal 90 minutes.
