Yves Bissouma Set for Ajax Move—Midfielder's Return to Eredivisie

Yves Bissouma is closing in on a move to Ajax, with the former Tottenham midfielder set to sign an initial deal running until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old, a free agent since leaving Spurs in June, is in Amsterdam to put the final touches on his return to top-flight football in the Netherlands. The agreement is understood to include an option to extend his stay in the Eredivisie by a further 12 months.

For Ajax, it is a chance to add experience and bite to the heart of their midfield. For Bissouma, it is a route back into the European spotlight after his time in north London fizzled out.

The Mali international joined Tottenham from Brighton in 2022 amid high expectations and went on to make 111 appearances for the club. At his best, he offered power, pressing and control at the base of midfield, traits that once made him one of the Premier League’s most sought-after destroyers.

His Spurs story, though, never quite settled. In August 2025, then-manager Thomas Frank omitted Bissouma from the squad to face Paris St-Germain in the Uefa Super Cup, citing persistent lateness. It proved a symbolic moment, underlining how far he had drifted from the centre of the project.

Now comes a reset. A new league, a new dressing room, a club renowned for rebuilding careers and reshaping identities.

Ajax are betting that the edge and energy that defined Bissouma’s rise have not gone. The next few months in Amsterdam will show whether they are right.
