2026 World Cup Knockout Stage: Teams Qualified, Bracket, and Schedule
The 2026 World Cup is progressing swiftly, and the knockout rounds are beginning to take shape. Co-hosts Mexico and the United States secured their spots in the Round of 32 early on, setting the stage for intense single-elimination matches to come.
Unlike the group phase where teams face multiple opponents, the knockout stage means one loss sends a team home immediately. Each match is do-or-die as nations vie for the trophy.
Current Round of 32 Qualifiers
With two wins under their belts, Mexico topped Group A after beating South Korea, guaranteeing them a prime position in the knockouts. The United States claimed first place in Group D, marking their best group finish since 2010. Their upcoming Round of 32 opponents will be third-place finishers from various groups.
Third-Place Teams Advancing
The tournament expands to include eight of the twelve third-place teams from group play. These teams are ranked by points, goal difference, and other criteria to determine who advances to the knockouts.
How the Knockout Matches Work
The Round of 32 begins the knockout phase, where each match decides which team continues and which goes home. If a game ends tied after regulation, it moves to 30 minutes of extra time. Should the deadlock remain, a penalty shootout decides the winner.
Teams finishing first in their groups face runners-up or qualifying third-place teams in predetermined matchups.
