This will be the second time the Estadio Metropolitano hosts the Champions League final; it previously held the 2019 decider where Liverpool defeated Tottenham 2-0. Since 2017, it has been the home ground for Atlético de Madrid and is located in the Rosas neighborhood of Spain’s capital.
Madrid has hosted six European Cup and Champions League finals in total, second only to London. The Estadio Santiago Bernabéu hosted finals in 1957, 1969, 1980, and 2010.

Background of Estadio Metropolitano
The stadium replaced the Vicente Calderón as Atlético de Madrid’s home and honors the original Estadio Metropolitano, which was their home until 1966. It opened on 16 September 2017 with a La Liga match against Málaga, where Antoine Griezmann scored the first goal at the venue.
Situated on Avenida Luis Aragonés, named after Spain’s UEFA EURO 2008-winning coach, the stadium holds approximately 70,000 spectators. It was designed with environmental features like LED lighting, solar panels, and recycled rainwater irrigation. Notably, it was the world’s first stadium fully lit by LED technology.
Its location in northeast Madrid allows easy access via subway line seven at the Estadio Metropolitano station.

Besides football, Estadio Metropolitano has hosted rugby union matches, including the World Rugby Sevens Series Grand Final, boxing events, and concerts. It is also a candidate venue for the 2030 FIFA World Cup matches.
