Abdukodir Khusanov Signs Five-Year Contract with Manchester City

Abdukodir Khusanov has committed his future to Manchester City, signing a new five-year contract that keeps one of last season’s breakout defenders at Etihad Stadium.

The 22-year-old centre-back, who arrived in January 2025 and immediately made history as the first Uzbek player in the Premier League, has quickly grown from an intriguing signing into a trusted figure in City’s back line. He featured 37 times under Pep Guardiola last season, a clear sign of how rapidly he adapted to English football and to one of the most demanding tactical systems in the game.

Guardiola’s departure and Maresca’s arrival reset the picture for everyone in the dressing room, but for Khusanov it creates exactly the kind of test he seems to relish. He has already shown he can absorb complex instructions and thrive in a possession-heavy side. Now he has to convince a new head coach that he belongs at the heart of the next iteration of City.

He knows he has allies in the stands. “Thank you to the City fans for all of your support – it has been really important as I have settled in England and the Premier League,” he said. “Now I am only looking forward. I am ready to do everything I can to help this club be as successful as possible.”
