Alex Scott Opens Door for Manchester United Move
Alex Scott has nudged the door open for Manchester United. Now it’s up to them to walk through it.
The Bournemouth midfielder has turned down a new contract at the Vitality Stadium, a decision that sharpens the sense that this summer could be his moment to move. United, already circling, will feel the opportunity widening.
Scott, 22, is under contract with Bournemouth until 2028, which hands the Cherries strong leverage. They’ve tried to strengthen that position with fresh terms, but, according to Sky Sports, the latest offer has been rejected by his camp. No agreement, no release clause, and a clear message: his future is in play.
United are rebuilding their midfield with intent. Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans have already arrived at Old Trafford, giving Michael Carrick fresh legs and profiles in the centre of the pitch. He wants one more. Scott is firmly on that shortlist, with AS Roma’s Manu Kone another serious option.
The market around them is shifting. Arsenal have been linked with both Scott and Kone, but their focus is locked on Bruno Guimaraes. If that remains the case, United could find themselves with a cleaner run at either midfielder, especially with several clubs open to doing business in this window.
Bournemouth will not let Scott go cheaply. With talk of a release clause never progressing into a signed deal, the expectation is that any buyer will need around £60 million. In a summer where Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali and Morgan Rogers have all been involved in triple-figure moves, that fee suddenly looks more like an opportunity than an obstacle for a club of United’s size.
Chelsea are watching too. Morgan Rogers is heading to Stamford Bridge, and their midfield picture remains uncertain with Enzo Fernandez’s future under constant scrutiny after his World Cup exploits. Scott is on their radar, and United know it.
Kone’s stock has also risen. The French midfielder started four games at the World Cup, often preferred to Aurelien Tchouameni, who is now expected to sign a new contract at Real Madrid. That kind of pedigree doesn’t go unnoticed in Manchester.
Scott is not the only Bournemouth player in United’s sights. Tyler Adams has been mentioned as another possible target, though interest in Brighton’s Carlos Baleba has cooled, hinting at a tightening shortlist rather than a scattergun approach.
Carrick’s recruitment drive is not limited to midfield. United are assessing attacking options, with Crysencio Summerville and Iliman Ndiaye both on the list. Any decisive move, though, is being held back while the club works out exactly what the future looks like for Marcus Rashford.
Rashford, now 28, is due to be reintegrated into the United squad after loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona. He had pushed for a permanent switch to Barça, but that door appears to be closing after the arrivals of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi this summer. His role at Old Trafford, once again, is a live question.
On the pitch, United’s pre-season has already thrown up a jolt. A strong side was beaten by Wrexham last week, a reminder that this is a squad still finding its structure and sharpness. Next comes Norwegian outfit Rosenborg, then higher-profile tests against Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
By the time those games are done, United will want clarity. On Rashford. On their attack. And most of all, on whether Alex Scott is the midfielder who walks into Carrick’s new-look engine room – or the one who got away.
