Andres Iniesta Embarks on Managerial Career with Gulf United in UAE
Andres Iniesta, the celebrated Barcelona and Spain midfielder, is about to start his managerial career by leading Gulf United FC in the UAE First Division. The 42-year-old legend hung up his boots two years ago after playing in the Middle East and has since earned his UEFA A coaching licence. This Friday marks his first official match in charge of the ambitious Dubai-based club.
From Player to Coach
After finishing his playing career at Emirates Club in 2024, Iniesta swiftly moved into coaching, completing his UEFA A licence and stepping into management with Gulf United in June. He is currently preparing to achieve his UEFA Pro Licence as he navigates this new chapter.
A Clear Tactical Vision
The former midfield maestro has emphasized that his squad has developed a clear tactical style ahead of their season opener at New Dibba Stadium. Reflecting on the upcoming game, Iniesta shared: We are really looking forward to Friday. We have been working with the team for several weeks on a clear style of play, and now it is time to compete.
Youth and Development at the Core
Gulf United is known for its youth-focused approach, having earned two promotions since being founded in 2019. They boast the youngest squad in the division, matching Iniesta's passion for nurturing individual talent alongside aiming for strong results. Away from Europe's big leagues, the four-time Champions League winner plans to build his coaching legacy by developing young players and pushing for success.
Challenging Start Against Dibba Al Fujairah
Iniesta's first competitive match will be against Dibba Al Fujairah, a team recently relegated from the top tier and expected to seek immediate promotion. This game will test how well Gulf United's young squad can implement Iniesta's strategy under pressure. Achieving consistency early will be key for building a promotion challenge before the league's break.
