Arsenal are on the brink of landing Bruno Guimaraes in a deal that underlines both their ambition and Newcastle United’s turmoil.
L’Equipe report that, after two rejected bids of €70 million and €80 million, Arsenal have pushed their offer to a €90 million base fee, with performance-related bonuses stacked on top. It is the kind of number that forces even the most reluctant seller to listen.
For Guimaraes, the decision has long been made.
The 28-year-old Brazil international has already agreed personal terms on a long-term contract running to 2031, a commitment that would tie the midfielder to the Emirates for the rest of his prime. Guimaraes presses pause on Newcastle plans
According to talkSPORT, Guimaraes personally asked Newcastle to delay his departure for their pre-season training camp in La Manga so the transfer could be pushed over the line. Newcastle sources insist his schedule was always flexible after the World Cup, but people around the player confirm his travel plans were shifted with one clear purpose: finish the Arsenal move.
Inside the club, there was no surprise when he made his stance explicit. Guimaraes informed the hierarchy, as well as former manager Eddie Howe, that he wanted to leave St James’ Park to play in Europe’s elite competition. With Newcastle missing out on Champions League qualification, their Brazilian captain set his sights elsewhere and made it clear he was ready for a new challenge.

Another major blow for Newcastle
For Newcastle, though, Guimaraes’ imminent exit is another brutal hit in a summer already defined by upheaval.
The Magpies have sanctioned Sandro Tonali’s move to Tottenham Hotspur and watched Anthony Gordon depart for Barcelona. Howe has stepped down. Now their midfield leader is on the way out as well. The spine that powered their recent resurgence has been ripped out in a matter of weeks.

Lyon, meanwhile, are following every twist in the negotiations. A 20 per cent sell-on clause means the French club stand to collect more than €8 million from the final fee, a significant windfall for the side that helped launch Guimaraes onto the European stage.
