Arsenal's Ambitious Call to Action for Premier League Title Defense

Stan and Josh Kroenke have thrown down a fresh challenge to Arsenal’s players, staff and supporters on the eve of their Premier League title defence, urging the club to turn a historic year into a sustained era of success.

On the night Arsenal open the new league campaign against Coventry City, the co-chairs used their joint programme notes to look back on a season they say “will forever be etched in our hearts” – and to make it clear that the bar has now been raised.

A year that changed everything

The 2025/26 season finally ended a 22-year wait for the Premier League crown, a moment the Kroenkes framed as a defining point in the club’s modern history. The men’s title was only half the story. Arsenal’s women also conquered the globe, being crowned FIFA Women’s World Champions and adding another layer to what the owners described as “memories that will last a lifetime”.

The images that followed the decisive night at Selhurst Park still linger. The Kroenkes spoke of holding the Premier League trophy in south London as “a special moment”, but stressed that the real magic lay in the outpouring from the fanbase.

From north London streets to gatherings across continents, they highlighted scenes that “transcended borders, cultures and generations”, a celebration they believe underlined Arsenal’s ability to create “pride, inspiration and belonging” for supporters worldwide.

The title parade through north London, coming so soon after the pain of a Champions League final defeat, felt like a collective reset. For the owners, it was a moment when club and fanbase reconnected in full voice after years of near misses and frustration.

No time to stand still

The nostalgia didn’t last long in their message. The tone quickly shifted from reflection to ambition.

“Champions don’t stand still, they evolve and keep moving forward,” the Kroenkes wrote, making it clear that last season’s breakthrough is viewed as a starting point, not a destination. The expectation is now to build, not bask.

They pointed to the summer’s international stage as evidence of Arsenal’s growing influence. Mikel Merino, Martin Zubimendi and David Raya all helped Spain win the World Cup, another sign of the calibre of players now embedded in the squad.

The early-season marker has already been laid down. Victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield was flagged as another indicator of momentum, a statement that Arsenal intend to remain in the fight for every major trophy.

Change in the squad, clarity in the plan

The message did not shy away from the churn that comes with elite competition. The departures of Leandro Trossard, Christian Norgaard, Jakub Kiwior, Karl Hein, Rosa Kafaji, Jenna Nighswonger and Laila Harbert were all acknowledged, a nod to players who contributed to a landmark year but now move on.

Attention then turned to those charged with pushing the story on. Behind the scenes, Pascal De Maesschalck arrives as the new Academy Director, a key appointment in a club that continues to lean heavily on youth development.

On the pitch, the list of reinforcements underlines the scale of Arsenal’s ambition across both men’s and women’s teams. Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis, Illan Meslier and Piero Hincapie bolster the men’s squad, while Georgia Stanway, Ona Batlle, Selina Cerci, Geraldine Reuteler, Lisa Baum, Isabella Damm and Misa Rodriguez strengthen a women’s side already at the summit of the world game.

The message is blunt: no complacency, no comfort zone. The champions intend to look stronger, deeper and more relentless.

A call to arms

As Arsenal step out to defend their Premier League title, the owners closed with a direct appeal to the fanbase that powered last season’s surge.

They thanked supporters “here tonight and those tuning in around the globe” for their loyalty, and set a clear target: to be “celebrating wildly together again” come season’s end, and to go “one (or more) better across our teams”.

The final line was simple, familiar, and loaded with expectation as another campaign kicks off under the floodlights: enjoy the game — and come on you Gunners.
