Barcelona Confirms Offer for Julián Álvarez Amid Transfer Speculation

Barcelona vice-president Rafael Yuste has put the worst-kept secret of their summer on record: the club did make an offer for Julián Álvarez.

He stopped there. No figures, no timelines, no hint of what comes next. But the admission alone underlines how serious Barça are about reshaping their attack.

Yuste breaks silence – carefully

Speaking to TV3 after the Joan Gamper Trophy, Yuste was pressed on the pursuit of the Atlético Madrid forward, whose name has been circling around Barcelona for weeks.

Atlético’s stance is blunt: Álvarez is not for sale. Reports in Spain insist the Argentine wants out, while Barcelona study different ways to add another top-level attacker before the window shuts.

Yuste chose his words with clear intent. This is a tug-of-war between two La Liga clubs who share more than just a fixture list.

“I don’t like to talk about players who aren’t ours. We’ve had a very good relationship with Miguel Ángel Gil and President Cerezo for years and years, and so these are things that I would say are part and parcel of football.

“We must maintain decorum and let common sense prevail,” he said, via Mundo Deportivo.

He refused to delve into Álvarez’s situation, his contract, or any desire to leave Atlético. No public pressure, no escalation. Just a reminder that the relationship between the clubs matters.

What he did confirm, though, was the key line of the night.

“We made an offer and that’s that.”

A simple sentence, but it cuts through weeks of speculation. Barcelona have formally gone for Álvarez. Whether that proposal is still on the table, or whether a new bid is being prepared, remains unanswered.

Focus on La Liga start

Yuste quickly steered the conversation away from transfer intrigue and back onto the pitch, echoing the message from Hansi Flick.

“We must focus entirely on what Hansi said recently: that we have a match on Sunday and we have to go out and win it.

“There are 38 matches in La Liga and each one is worth three points, so we’re fully focused on trying to secure our first win,” he added.

The subtext is clear: the Álvarez chase will not become a public soap opera, at least not from Barcelona’s side. The club wants to project calm, control, and a squad locked in on the opening league fixtures.

Window still open – and Barça still active

Behind that calm exterior, the market work continues.

Yuste underlined that Barcelona are not done yet and could still add more faces before the deadline. He highlighted the efforts of the sporting department during the deal for Rodri and name-checked the key figures driving the recruitment push.

“We have a great technical team, with Deco, Bojan and Alejandro Echeverría, who is also doing an exceptional job, and the transfer window is still open.”

The message is pointed: Barça have structure, they have a plan, and they have people they trust to execute it.

Whether that plan ultimately brings Julián Álvarez to Montjuïc is another matter entirely.
