Barcelona Faces Probe Over Julian Álvarez Transfer Pursuit
The Julian Álvarez chase has left the backrooms and stepped into a courtroom atmosphere. According to SPORT, FC Barcelona have now been officially notified that Atlético Madrid’s complaint over their pursuit of the Argentine striker has triggered disciplinary proceedings at the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
A case is open. A deadline is set. And one of the summer’s biggest transfer stories has just acquired a legal edge.
RFEF steps in, Barça build their defence
The RFEF has informed Barcelona that it has opened a formal file on the matter and granted the Catalan club several days to present its version of events.
Barcelona’s legal department is already at work, poring over Atlético’s complaint and preparing a detailed response aimed at clearing the club of any wrongdoing. Inside the club, the mood is calm rather than combative. Senior figures at Barça are said to be confident the process will not bring serious sanctions.
They do not recognise the picture Atlético are trying to paint.
Barcelona’s stance: open, not clandestine
At the heart of the complaint lies one accusation: that Barcelona held talks with Álvarez while he remains under contract at Atlético Madrid until 2030.
Barça’s position is clear. From their point of view, Álvarez himself publicly expressed his desire to leave the Spanish capital and called playing for Barcelona his dream. That statement changed the temperature of the whole operation.
Shortly after those comments, Barcelona put their cards on the table with a formal offer in the region of €100 million. No back door, no shadow negotiations, is how they see it. For the club, the sequence is crucial: public words from the player, then an official bid. That, they believe, shows transparency rather than tapping up.
Atlético, of course, see it differently. Hence the file now sitting on the RFEF’s desk.
Álvarez still top of the list
Away from the legal paperwork, the football side of the story has not shifted.
Sporting director Deco still regards Julian Álvarez as the priority to spearhead Hansi Flick’s attack. The Argentine remains the preferred option to lead the line at the Camp Nou, the focal point of a remodelled forward unit.
The problem? Atlético Madrid have been unwavering. The message from the Metropolitano has not changed: they have no intention of negotiating Álvarez’s sale to Barcelona.
Barça’s current offer is not open-ended. It is expected to expire soon, injecting fresh urgency into a saga that has already dominated the market narrative. The next few days will test how far each side is willing to go.
