Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala Collapses During Friendly
MUNICH — Bayern Munich were still keeping tight-lipped on Sunday over the condition of Jamal Musiala, a day after the midfielder collapsed late in a friendly against RB Leipzig.
The 23-year-old suddenly went down on the turf shortly before the final whistle, sparking immediate concern. Teammates rushed toward him, waving urgently for medical help as the Allianz Arena fell silent.
Club medics sprinted onto the pitch and formed a circle around the Germany international. For a few tense moments, nobody in the stands knew quite what they were looking at. Then came the first sign of relief: one member of the medical staff turned to the touchline and raised a thumbs up.
Musiala eventually got back to his feet. He walked off the field without assistance and made his way down the steps into the players’ tunnel, though witnesses said he still looked dazed, according to news agency DPA.
“The main thing is that he's OK,” a Bayern board member for sport said several hours after the incident.
The club, however, did not release any medical details, offer a diagnosis, or confirm what had triggered the collapse.
The conditions were draining. Temperatures in Munich were above 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) during the match, and the heat is being considered as a possible factor.
The Associated Press has requested an update from Bayern on Musiala’s status, but none had been provided by Sunday.
The scare comes less than a year after Musiala broke his leg in Bayern’s Club World Cup clash with Paris Saint-Germain. He fought his way back to fitness in time to return at the start of the 2026 Bundesliga campaign and quickly re-established himself as a central figure for both club and country.
He then carried that form onto the biggest stage, playing a key role for Germany at the 2026 World Cup. Julien Nagelsmann’s team, though, suffered a shock exit in the round of 32 against Paraguay.
Now Bayern and Germany wait again, this time not for form or fitness over a long season, but for clarity on what happened in those unsettling minutes against Leipzig.
