Bayern's Win Marred by Injury Concerns as Musiala Collapses

Bayern Munich’s 3-1 friendly win over RB Leipzig in Munich on Saturday was supposed to be a routine pre-season marker. Instead, it turned into a worrying afternoon for Vincent Kompany, with Jamal Musiala, Konrad Laimer and Minjae Kim all forced off.

The most alarming moment came just minutes after Musiala had found the net to make it 3-1. In sweltering temperatures, the Germany international suddenly collapsed to the turf without any contact from an opponent.

Ismael Saibari reacted instantly, sprinting across and managing to catch Musiala before he hit the ground. Joshua Kimmich also rushed over as concern spread through both sets of players.

Medical staff were on the pitch within seconds. A stretcher followed, heightening the tension inside the stadium. Bayern’s doctors treated Musiala on the grass for several minutes as team-mates looked on anxiously.

The pressure around the incident slowly eased when Musiala was helped back to his feet. He did not continue, but he was able to leave the field on foot, supported by the team doctor rather than the stretcher that had been prepared.

After the final whistle, board member for sport Max Eberl offered the first indication of the club’s internal mood, even with a full medical report still outstanding, underlining the relief that the situation had not immediately escalated into something more serious.

The Musiala scare capped a troubling pattern for Bayern on a day that should have been about rhythm and fitness. Earlier in the match, Laimer had gone down after a challenge and immediately clutched his right thigh. He received treatment on the pitch but was unable to continue and was substituted, with a precise diagnosis still to come.

Minjae Kim also had to come off, adding another note of concern to Kompany’s preparations, even as the scoreboard read comfortably in Bayern’s favour.

The result will be quickly forgotten. The real question now is how badly this friendly has dented Bayern’s plans for the weeks ahead.
