Benjamin Sesko Reflects on Late Draw Against Everton Despite Scoring First Goal for Manchester United
Sesko Acknowledges Pain of Last-Minute Draw
Benjamin Sesko expressed disappointment after Manchester United conceded a stoppage-time goal to Everton, which denied them victory despite Sesko scoring his first goal of the season. The Slovenian striker came off the bench at Hill Dickinson Stadium and headed United ahead in the 88th minute, only for Ainsley Maitland-Niles to equalize in the 96th minute, resulting in a 2-2 draw.
Scoring Return from Injury
The forward marked his return to fitness by scoring after being introduced as a second-half substitute. He connected with a precise cross from Luke Shaw, powering a header past goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to give the Red Devils the lead late in the match.
Frustration Over Late Collapse
Despite the positive moment, Sesko admitted frustration about losing the three points so close to the final whistle. Speaking to MUTV, he said:
"We're very disappointed because we were so close to winning and yet so far. To concede a goal like that in the last minute is painful for everyone because everyone was giving their all to try and win the game. Every single person here wants that. When a last shot decides it, it's very painful."
Encouraged by Progress
Sesko’s goal is a welcome sign after injury setbacks disrupted much of his pre-season training. Reflecting on his performance and the team’s effort, he added:
"For me, scoring is the best feeling, especially at a club like this. When I can provide goals and points for the team, it's my job at the end of the day. It's great to be back with the team and experience the games again. Of course, I wish we had won today, but we can't change that. It's important to focus on the positives, even when the result isn't ideal, to see the game in a good light and improve for the next match."
Looking Ahead to European Challenge
Having come off the bench in recent matches against Hull City, Ipswich Town, and Everton, Sesko aims for a starting role as he regains full match fitness. Michael Carrick's squad will need to bounce back quickly from the Premier League setback as they prepare for midweek European action. Manchester United host Azerbaijani champions Sabah at Old Trafford on Thursday, kicking off their Champions League campaign.
