Brawl in Johor Bahru After World Cup Final

What began as a night of football fever in Johor Bahru ended in handcuffs and a criminal investigation.

Johor police chief Ab Rahaman Arsad said officers received a report of a brawl at 5.40am, shortly after a screening of the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina. By late morning, the response was swift and decisive.

Between 10am and 11am, police moved in on the Taman Setia Indah area and arrested all the suspects believed to be involved. They did not get far.

“All the suspects were arrested around the Taman Setia Indah area not long after the incident was reported. Checks found that three of the suspects have criminal records,” Utusan Malaysia quoted Ab Rahaman as saying.

A two-minute, 36-second video circulating on social media captures the chaos. The clip shows a full-blown brawl breaking out during what should have been a routine public screening of one of the biggest matches in world football, the World Cup final. What sparked it remains unclear, but the images have raced across phones and feeds, turning a local disturbance into a talking point.

Police are treating it as a serious offence. The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code, which covers rioting with weapons, a charge that carries significant penalties.

Ab Rahaman confirmed that the suspects will be taken to the Johor Bahru magistrates’ court tomorrow for a remand application as investigators piece together exactly how a night built around Spain versus Argentina descended into violence.
