CAF Champions League 2026–27 Draw Date Set for August

The road to the 2026–27 CAF Champions League is about to take shape, with the Confederation of African Football expected to stage the preliminary draw on August 6 in Cairo.

Moroccan outlet El Botola, citing an official source within CAF’s Club Competitions Committee, reports that the governing body has pencilled in that date as the moment the continent’s elite club campaign officially starts to breathe. The draw in Egypt’s capital will come only after the club registration window closes and national federations sign off on their teams’ final squad lists.

No registration. No approval. No balls in the pot.

CAF is also drawing a firm line on format. According to the same report, the Competitions Committee has rejected a proposal from the Egyptian Football Association to expand the number of clubs involved in its interclub competitions. The message is clear: no expansion, no tweaks, no experimental reshaping of the continent’s flagship tournaments for 2026–27. The current structure stays.

For Morocco, the stakes are already clear. RS Berkane and Maghreb de Fès will carry the country’s colours into the next edition of Africa’s premier club competition, both eyeing long, serious runs rather than brief cameos. Their first hurdle will come straight out of that preliminary draw, which will map out the opening fixtures for clubs desperate to fight their way toward the lucrative and prestigious group stage.
