Jamie Carragher Urges Liverpool to Sign Right Winger Immediately

Jamie Carragher has issued a stark warning to Liverpool’s recruitment team: sign a right winger – and do it fast.

With the club exploring a deal for Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, the former Liverpool defender made it clear he does not see the Frenchman as the answer to the looming Mohamed Salah problem at Anfield. The concern is not about Barcola’s talent. It’s about his position.

Barcola, who has been used predominantly from the left, is the subject of negotiations with the Blues, but Carragher cannot understand why Liverpool would move for yet another left-sided attacker when the right flank is already a looming void.

Responding to a Sky Sports post on X asking whether Barcola could be Salah’s replacement, Carragher cut straight through the optimism.

“No, he plays on the opposite flank!” he replied, underlining the positional mismatch in blunt terms.

For Carragher, the issue is structural. Liverpool are overloaded on one side and exposed on the other. He spelled it out with a simple roll call of options.

“LFC currently have three players who could play from the left in Rio/Gakpo/Wirtz & no one who plays from the right.”

That imbalance sits at the heart of his criticism. With Salah’s future a constant talking point and his long-term replacement still unclear, Carragher’s message lands with weight: Liverpool can no longer afford to improvise on the right wing.
