Michael Carrick Praises Growing Midfield Bond Between Kobbie Mainoo and Youri Tielemans at Man Utd

Carrick Applauds Developing Midfield Partnership

Michael Carrick has expressed satisfaction with the emerging connection between Kobbie Mainoo and Youri Tielemans following their commanding display in Manchester United’s dominant win against Sabah. This midfield duo anchored the team’s efforts, contributing significantly to a 3-0 lead by halftime.

The manager entrusted them to control the midfield for a third straight game, where their understanding and discipline stood out. Their performance laid a solid foundation for United’s strong start to the season.

Squad Rotation Shows Depth

The comfortable lead allowed Carrick to rest key players and introduce fresh legs like Mason Mount, who made his first appearance of the season. Tielemans was substituted at halftime, with Andrey Santos coming on later to replace Mainoo. Carrick highlighted the strength and versatility within his squad after the match.

"I think all four midfielders tonight carried on the same way," Carrick said. "Obviously Mason coming on at half-time and Andrey. It was great to get Mason back on the pitch after missing a short period of time. And Andrey settled in fantastically well."
"Kobbie and Youri have played more minutes, and you can see the understanding. I think Youri settled in, and I thought he was really good tonight again. Kobbie’s just been really consistent all the way through, so we’ve got really good options in there. It’s good to see the understanding between all of them that we can call upon when we need to."

Benjamin Sesko Adds Different Dimension Up Front

In attack, Benjamin Sesko continued his fine form by scoring for the second consecutive match on his first start of the campaign. Returning from a shin injury sustained late last season, the Slovenian striker is regaining the sharpness he showed previously under Carrick’s guidance.

"He definitely offers a different kind of threat," Carrick remarked. "That’s kind of the beauty of it, that we know what Ben gives us. There’s not many around that kind of give you what Ben does in terms of his physique, his physicality, playing on the last line, his speed to run in behind."
"He’s a real threat. It’s great to have him back at this level after working to get back fitness. A couple of goals and good performances, good minutes in him, so really pleased with the way he’s gone."

Looking Ahead: Managing Fitness and Building Momentum

The coaching staff will continue to monitor Sesko’s workload carefully as he builds match fitness. With Mason Mount returning and Andrey Santos settling in well, Manchester United now boasts a deep and flexible squad. Carrick can rely on multiple midfield and attacking options as they prepare for a busy schedule ahead.
