Charlton Athletic Sign Timothy Ouma on Season-Long Loan

Charlton Athletic have moved to sharpen their midfield with the signing of Kenya international Timothy Ouma on a season-long loan from Slavia Prague, with an option to make the deal permanent.

It is not a punt. Nathan Jones has been tracking him for a long time, and he made that clear.

“Timothy is a player that we've monitored for a long, long time, and he comes with a real good pedigree,” the Charlton boss told the club’s official website. “He's an athletic, technical midfield player who has had some good experience, and he'll add real quality to our midfield.”

That “pedigree” has been earned the hard way.

Ouma started out with Nairobi City Stars in his home city, emerging as one of the Kenyan Premier League’s brightest young talents before earning a move to Europe. IF Elfsborg took him to Sweden in the summer of 2022, a significant step up in level and expectation.

He did not just tread water there. Over three seasons in the Allsvenskan he played his way into continental football, racking up 13 Europa League appearances and learning what it takes to operate under the spotlight and under pressure.

Slavia Prague then came calling, snapping him up from Elfsborg and immediately slotting him into their wider project. Last season, they sent him on loan to Lech Poznan, where he tasted the sharp end of a title race and came out with a league winner’s medal.

From Nairobi to Borås, from Prague to Poznan, and now to south-east London.

Charlton are getting a 22-year-old who has already crossed borders, adapted to different leagues and handled European nights. Jones wants energy, technique and personality in the middle of the pitch. Ouma arrives with all three – and the chance, if this season goes to plan, to make The Valley his long-term home.
