Chelsea's Pre-Season Tour in Hong Kong: Key Arrivals and Expectations
Chelsea’s tour of Asia is starting to look a lot more serious.
Xabi Alonso will have a very different set of tools at his disposal in Hong Kong, with a fresh wave of reinforcements landing just as pre-season begins to sharpen into something more revealing.
Mudryk cleared and back in the frame
The headline arrival is Mykhailo Mudryk. Cleared to play again, the 25-year-old Ukraine international flew overnight and touched down in Hong Kong on Monday, travelling alongside Danny Welbeck as Chelsea step up preparations for their clash with Juventus.
For Mudryk, it is a reset. For Alonso, it is another high‑octane option in wide areas at a time when systems, partnerships and hierarchies are still being formed.
Quenda and a £40m statement
Joining them is Geovany Quenda, the winger signed from Sporting for £40m. His presence instantly changes the tone of this tour. This is no fringe prospect quietly eased in on the far side of the world; this is a major investment dropped straight into the manager’s hands.

Big names finally join the party
Moises Caicedo and Nicolas Jackson have also reported in, though the timing of their arrival meant they played no part in the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday.
That will change quickly. Alonso has confirmed both will feature against Juventus, a significant step as he looks to knit his core players together after a staggered return from summer breaks and international duty.
