Brunswick, Maine – One moment of precision undid an evening of resistance for Bowdoin.
A sharp second-half move from Colby delivered a 1-0 win for the Mules on Friday night at Pickard Field, spoiling the Polar Bears’ season and NESCAC opener.

Colby Dictates, Bowdoin Bends but Doesn’t Break
From the opening whistle, Colby grabbed control of the tempo and refused to let go. The Mules poured numbers forward, dictated possession, and turned that dominance into a barrage of chances.

Yet the scoreboard stayed frozen at 0-0, thanks largely to senior goalkeeper Ilana Posner. In her first start for the Polar Bears, Posner stood up to the pressure, turning away five first-half efforts and organizing a back line that spent long stretches under siege.

Caraluzzi and Jarvi Combine for the Breakthrough
The resistance finally cracked in the 55th minute.
Colby’s Ella Caraluzzi drove down the left flank, slicing into space with purpose. Her low, centered ball found Abagail Jarvi in front, and Jarvi did the rest, steering her finish into the back of the net for the game’s only goal.

Colby finished with a 10-2 edge in shots on goal, underlining their attacking control. Bowdoin, though, found small margins to work with on set pieces, earning a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks as they chased an equalizer.
The final whistle came with the Polar Bears still pressing, still searching, still one goal short.
