Como have tied Roberta Picchi to a new long-term contract after the forward was diagnosed with breast cancer, turning a brutal personal moment into a clear statement of faith in one of the pillars of their rise.

The club, preparing for their first-ever season in women's Serie A, announced that Picchi’s deal has been extended until the end of the 2027-28 campaign, describing it as part of their “continued commitment” to the 34-year-old.

This is not a routine renewal. It is a club planting its flag beside a player as she steps into the most daunting battle of her life.

Picchi is set to begin cancer treatment, with Como’s medical staff working alongside the specialists overseeing her care. The club stressed that their entire structure will be wrapped around her over the coming months.

“Everyone at Como 1907 is alongside Roberta and will give her and her family all the support they need during the months ahead,” read a statement, which also urged that her privacy be respected while she focuses on treatment and recovery.

On the pitch, Picchi was a driving force in a historic season. She helped Como storm to the Serie B title last term, finishing 11 points clear of Lumezzane and sealing a first promotion to the top tier of Italian women’s football.

Off the pitch, her response to the diagnosis carried the same steel.
