Coventry Pursues Former Man Utd Talent; Crystal Palace Bids for £42.9m Midfielder
Coventry Targets Ex-Manchester United Midfielder Angel Gomes
Coventry City have reportedly shown interest in signing Angel Gomes, who previously played for Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 25-year-old recently returned to his parent club, Marseille, after a goalless and assist-free run across 13 games at Wolves. Gomes featured in seven Premier League matches during Wolves' relegation season but was not retained as the club declined their £6 million purchase option.
Despite this, Coventry might offer Gomes a chance back in the top flight. According to L'Equipe via SportWitness, the Sky Blues have enquired about acquiring the midfielder. Gomes remains under contract with Marseille for two more seasons but could leave if an acceptable offer arrives. Since joining Marseille on a free transfer from Lille last summer, he has scored four goals in 20 appearances.
Newcastle’s Joe Willock Transfer Stalled by Price Demands
Meanwhile, Newcastle United are in a tricky spot regarding midfielder Joe Willock. The former Arsenal academy player is entering the final year of his contract, and Newcastle may need to sell him to avoid losing him for free next year. Despite already losing Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali this summer, they remain firm on a £19.7 million price tag.
Potential buyer Besiktas has offered considerably less, around £11.2 million, with a maximum bid near £12.9 million, according to Turkish outlet Sabah via SportWitness. Newcastle’s reluctance to lower their demands appears to be blocking the move. Willock has contributed 19 goals and 11 assists in 182 appearances for the Magpies, who are also eyeing Marseille's Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to strengthen their midfield.
West Ham's Niclas Fullkrug Move Collapses Over Price
West Ham United striker Niclas Fullkrug seems priced out of a transfer following a disappointing loan spell at AC Milan, where he scored only once in 20 games. After West Ham’s relegation, Fullkrug was not involved in their recent EFL Cup win over Portsmouth and is expected to move on.
He had reportedly agreed terms with Italian club Venezia, but German publication SportBild claims West Ham’s asking price scuppered the deal. Fullkrug is now training alone as he looks for a new club. Since joining West Ham from Borussia Dortmund for £27 million in 2024, he has netted just three goals in 29 appearances.
Crystal Palace Makes Offer for Monaco’s Lamine Camara
In London, Crystal Palace appear to be ahead of Nottingham Forest in the race to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara. The 22-year-old Senegalese international has been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool, though neither club has formalized an offer.
Man Utd have recently added Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, while Liverpool are focused on signing PSG forward Bradley Barcola. This leaves room for other Premier League teams like Palace to act. French source FootMercato reports that Palace have made a "concrete offer" for Camara. Monaco values the player at £42.9 million, suggesting negotiations will be lengthy and challenging. Camara is contracted until 2029, and Monaco needs to secure major sales after transferring Maghnes Akliouche to PSG.
