Crystal Palace Pursue Pierre Sage as Iraola Nears Liverpool Talks
Crystal Palace’s managerial search has taken a sharp turn, with Lens head coach Pierre Sage now expected to hold talks with the club in the early part of this week as they move on from first-choice target Andoni Iraola.
Palace had pushed hard for Iraola, identifying the Bournemouth boss as the ideal successor to Oliver Glasner. The club made a firm proposal to the Spaniard after his Europa Conference League triumph, confident that his high-intensity style could be dropped straight into Selhurst Park.
That plan is slipping away.
Iraola is set to begin formal discussions with Liverpool in the coming days as they look to replace Arne Slot, who was sacked on Saturday. As the prospect of prising Iraola from Bournemouth fades, Palace’s search has opened up again.

The 47-year-old Lens manager has been quietly building a reputation as one of Europe’s most progressive coaches. His work has not gone unnoticed in south London. BBC Sport first revealed Palace’s interest on 8 May, but at that stage the hierarchy, led by chairman Steve Parish, remained locked on Iraola and prepared to wait.
The landscape has changed.
Palace are now actively assessing a wider pool of candidates, with Sage among the leading names. The Frenchman is understood to be open to the move and is expected to meet club officials in the coming days to discuss the role.
Parish and his board are determined not to be bounced into a decision. With Glasner gone and pre-season planning already looming, the temptation might be to move quickly. Instead, Palace are taking a more deliberate approach, weighing up several options rather than handing the job to the next available name.
Sage, though, fits the profile they have been leaning towards: tactically sharp, modern in his methods, and seen by many within the game as a coach on the rise.
