Curtis Jones Faces Liverpool Exit as Inter Milan Prepares New Bid

Inter Milan are preparing to test Liverpool’s resolve again over Curtis Jones, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that a fresh bid for the midfielder is now expected.

The 25-year-old’s future has hung over Liverpool’s summer. Inter have already seen an opening offer of £21.7m rejected, with The Athletic reporting that the Reds initially set their valuation at around £34m.

The stance may be softening. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said the Serie A champions still class Jones as a “priority” target and indicated Liverpool could now be willing to do business at around €35m (roughly £30m).

Inter sense their moment.

Omission raises the temperature

Jones’ situation sharpened further at the weekend. Liverpool played two matches against Como on Sunday. He did not feature in either. He was not even named among the substitutes.

Romano then moved the story on with an update on X, writing that Inter “remain keen on the English midfielder with new bid anticipated, deal depends on club-to-club talks as player wants the move.”

That last part is crucial. The player wants the move. Once that line is crossed, negotiations tend to accelerate.

Head coach Andoni Iraola has said Jones has been carrying a minor hip problem, as reported by The Standard. On its own, that might explain his absence. But when a fit-again academy graduate suddenly disappears from a 30-man matchday pool while his club quietly trims their asking price, the dots are not hard to join.

On Sunday, Iraola used 24 different players across the two Como fixtures, with another six on the bench who didn’t get on the pitch. Jones was in neither group. For a senior midfielder in his prime, that omission felt loud.

A local lad on the brink

If this is the beginning of the end for Jones at Anfield, it carries an emotional weight. The Toxteth-born midfielder is the last Scouser in Liverpool’s current first-team squad. Losing that local thread would sting a support that has long cherished its homegrown heartbeat.

Jones has fought his way through injuries, competition and managerial changes to carve out a role, but Inter’s persistence and his own desire for the move are dragging the story in one direction. The tide, right now, is flowing towards San Siro.

Liverpool still hold the cards on the fee. Inter still have to meet a number that works for the Premier League club. But with the asking price reportedly nudged down and the player’s stance clear, the Italian champions will fancy their chances of landing another key piece for Simone Inzaghi’s midfield.

One rejected bid is already on the table. All signs point to another landing soon.
