David Oduro Leaves Barcelona for Annecy in Ligue 2

David Oduro’s Barcelona chapter is over. The Ghanaian left-back, once seen as part of Barça Atletic’s next wave, is heading to France to join Annecy in Ligue 2.

The Haute-Savoie club confirmed his arrival on Saturday, closing a two-year spell in Barcelona that never quite found full rhythm.

From African prospect to French move

Oduro arrived at Barça as part of a focused recruitment push in Africa, alongside Aziz Issah and Ibrahim Diarra. On paper, he was set up for a long stay: his contract ran until 2027 and he filled a position the club has been constantly reshaping.

Reality was slower.

His first season stalled almost before it started. Bureaucratic problems kept him sidelined for weeks, restricting him to just 10 appearances. Only last season did he finally gain some continuity, featuring in 23 matches and beginning to look settled in the Barça Atletic setup.

Now, at 20, he cuts ties with Barcelona and swaps the Mediterranean for the Alps, looking for minutes and momentum in France’s second division.

Left-back reset under Belletti

His departure is part of a wider shake-up on the left side of Juliano Belletti’s defence.

Oduro is gone. Jofre Torrents has also moved on, joining Ajax. Two left-backs out, and a new hierarchy to build.

Into that space steps Josué Caicedo. The club has moved to reinforce the position with the young full-back, who has already impressed during pre-season and pushed his case for regular minutes.

There is another decision looming. Jordi Pesquer has spent time training with the first team, and Barça must now choose where he fits best this season: continuing to grow under Belletti, or edging closer to the senior setup.

Belletti’s options do not end there. Alex Walton is in the squad, while Patricio Pacifico remains sidelined as he recovers from an ACL injury. To widen the pool, Landry Farre has also been tested at left-back, giving the coach yet another tactical card to play.

Oduro moves on to Annecy in search of a clearer path. At Barça Atletic, the position he leaves behind has become one of the most contested spots in the team.
