David Warner Charged with Mid-Range Drink Driving in Sydney
David Warner, one of Australian cricket’s most high-profile modern stars, has been charged with mid-range drink driving after being stopped by police in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
Police were conducting random breath tests on Malabar Road in Maroubra at about 5:30pm on Sunday when a van allegedly pulled up short of the testing site and parked nearby. Officers approached the vehicle and spoke with the 39-year-old driver, who has since been confirmed as Warner.
He was subjected to a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result. Warner was then arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station for further testing.
A subsequent breath analysis allegedly produced a reading of 0.104, placing it in the middle-range drink driving category under New South Wales law.
Warner has been formally charged with mid-range drink driving and is scheduled to appear in court in May.
The left-handed opener, who retired from international cricket in 2024, remains an active figure in domestic and franchise competitions, including the Big Bash League.
