Deniz Undav Sets Deadline for VfB Stuttgart Contract Talks
Deniz Undav has put a clock on VfB Stuttgart.
The striker, one of the faces of Stuttgart’s resurgence, wants his future settled before he boards a plane with the German national team for the World Cup in the United States. According to Bild, Undav has drawn a clear line in the sand: clarity by Tuesday, June 2 – or contract talks go on ice.
No grey area. No slow drip of negotiations. He wants a decision.
An ultimatum before America
On Tuesday, Undav is due to fly with Germany to America for the tournament. From that moment, his focus is supposed to belong entirely to the national team. If Stuttgart and player have not reached an agreement by then, the talks are expected to be paused.
The message is unmistakable: sort it now, or wait.
Stuttgart, for their part, are working against that deadline. Bild reports that the club intend to place a fresh offer on the table before the weekend, hoping to break the deadlock and secure the 27-year-old on improved terms.
The numbers on the table
The framework of the deal is substantial already.
Undav currently earns around €4.5 million a year. Stuttgart’s latest proposal is said to lift that to between €5.5 million and €6 million per season, plus a signing-on fee of €3 million just for putting pen to paper.
For most players in the Bundesliga, that would be a statement package. For Undav, it has not yet hit the mark.
His stance underlines both his importance to VfB and his market value after a standout campaign. A striker in his prime, on the verge of a World Cup, knows this is the moment to secure the contract of his career.
Stuttgart under pressure
So the pressure now sits squarely on Stuttgart’s side of the table. They must decide how far they are willing to stretch to keep their attacking leader happy – and they must decide quickly.
Raise the offer again? Hold the line and risk talks stalling at the very moment his profile could explode on the international stage?
Undav has set the terms and the timetable. Stuttgart know exactly where they stand.
Whether the Swabians can convince their goalscorer before he steps on that flight to America will say plenty about their ambition – and about how long this partnership is really built to last.
