Eduardo Camavinga's Future at Real Madrid: Transfer Intrigue

Eduardo Camavinga’s future at Real Madrid, once seen as a long-term certainty, has been dragged into the summer’s transfer intrigue.

According to The Athletic, the 23-year-old is no longer viewed as untouchable by new manager José Mourinho, a sharp change of status for a player the club signed from Stade Rennais in 2021 for €31 million and once billed as the next great midfield pillar at the Bernabéu.

This has not been his season. In a campaign marked by Real Madrid’s broader struggles, Camavinga’s own form has dipped badly, and not for a week or two. It has been sustained, visible, and costly. The player who used to glide through games has too often looked short of rhythm and confidence, and that slump has carried a heavy price on the international stage.

Camavinga, once a regular in Didier Deschamps’ France squad with 29 caps and two goals, has slipped out of the picture entirely. He did not make Deschamps’ final FIFA World Cup squad, a brutal marker of how far his stock has fallen in a short space of time.

Now the uncertainty has reached his club career. The Athletic reports that Real Madrid are ready to listen to offers for the midfielder. That stance alone would have been unthinkable not long ago for a player signed as both present and future.

The player’s position is very different. Camavinga is described as desperate to stay at the Bernabéu, determined to fight for his place rather than walk away from one of the biggest stages in world football. He may no longer be protected by the “untouchable” label, but he is not agitating for the exit.

That tension between club and player has opened a small but significant door. La Corriere dello Sport reports that Serie A champions Inter Milan have already tested the waters with an enquiry about his availability. For a club fresh from domestic success and looking to reinforce its midfield with energy and versatility, the opportunity is obvious.

For now, the lines are clear. Real Madrid are prepared to listen. Camavinga is not prepared to leave. The rest of Europe is watching to see which side blinks first.
