Cesc Fabregas Demands New Striker for Como After Shock Win Over Napoli

Cesc Fabregas has made a clear demand to the Como board for a new striker just days before the summer transfer window shuts. This comes after his team secured a remarkable 2-1 win against Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Despite the triumph, Fabregas wants reinforcements to face the challenges of Serie A and their upcoming debut in the Champions League.

Victory Over Napoli and Transfer Demands

Goals from Martin Baturina and Anastasios Douvikas brought the historic victory to Como, but Fabregas quickly shifted focus to strengthening his squad. The Spanish coach is aware that competing on multiple fronts – domestic league, Coppa Italia, and Europe – requires depth, especially in attack. The club is actively discussing a potential signing of Moise Kean from Fiorentina.

Fabregas was straightforward about the need for an additional striker. He said to DAZN, "I’m expecting a striker. Douvikas cannot handle Serie A, Coppa Italia, and Champions League all by himself. We can’t compete in three competitions with only one forward. Last season, we struggled when Alvaro Morata was injured for months. Many times we had to play with a false nine. Playing every three days at this level is tough."

Praise for Luis Milla’s Impact

Alongside transfer plans, Fabregas highlighted the contribution of midfielder Luis Milla, who joined Como this summer and has quickly become vital. The 31-year-old started his second straight game against Napoli, proving his importance in midfield. Fabregas noted that Milla doesn’t get enough recognition in Spain, where younger stars like Pedri and Rodri usually dominate the spotlight.

"Milla is very underrated in Spain, but that’s normal. There are many great players, so sometimes we forget those who aren’t Pedri or Rodri," Fabregas explained. "I’ve followed him for a long time. His career has steadily grown, and now it’s his time to play in the Champions League. We try to bring young players here, but I’m happy for him and many others."

Tactical Lessons and Milestone Win

Fabregas sees the Napoli victory as a personal breakthrough. He recalled difficulties facing Massimiliano Allegri’s tactics during last season’s AC Milan encounters but said those challenges helped him grow tactically.

"This win means a lot. I learned a lot from the recent match against Milan. Today, we read the game well. The first half was strong; the second half showed we faced champions, but we held firm. Their substitutions made me think they still had more options. It felt like being in a sauna," Fabregas remarked.

Managing Expectations and Upcoming Matches

The win at Maradona Stadium raised hopes among Como fans, yet Fabregas cautioned patience and realism. He quickly focused on the next fixture against Genoa, reminding everyone that losses are part of the process.

"We have a crucial game left against Genoa. There will be many matches where the opponent is better. You have to accept that. Genoa has an 80% chance of winning, we have 20%," Fabregas warned.
