Gabriel Gudmundsson Returns to Action for Leeds
Gabriel Gudmundsson had waited months for this. Leeds fans had too.
The defender’s appearance in the 1-1 draw at Brighton marked his first competitive outing for the Whites since April, ending a long spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds after the game, the 27-year-old was quick to shift the spotlight.
He praised the club’s physio staff for steering him through his rehabilitation and getting him back to a point where he could handle the intensity of Premier League football again.
The setting for his return was hardly gentle. Brighton away is rarely forgiving.
"I feel Brighton is a difficult place to come," Gudmundsson said, reflecting on a fixture that has punished Leeds before. "Last season we lost here quite badly, so I think we are doing some good stuff."
That was the difference this time. Leeds stood firm. They left with a point, their unbeaten start under Daniel Farke stretching to four matches in all competitions.
There is no sense of anyone getting carried away at Elland Road, least of all Gudmundsson. For him, this feels like the start of something, not the end of a recovery.
"The process starts now, and it is going to get better and better for us," he said, framing Brighton not as a destination but as a launchpad.
Next comes Chelsea in the Carabao Cup third round on Wednesday – a sharper test, a bigger stage, and another chance for Gudmundsson and Farke’s side to show that this early-season resilience is built to last.
