Uche had just returned from a loan spell at Crystal Palace, coming back to Spain with confidence, rhythm, and a clear objective: to force his way into Bordalás’ core midfield unit and finally cement his place in La Liga. His energy, ball-winning ability and vertical running were expected to give Getafe a different dimension in the middle of the pitch.

Now Bordalás must redraw his plans. A squad built with Uche in mind suddenly has a hole in its spine, and the club faces a decision: trust the existing depth or move in the market to find cover for a player who was set to be more than just a rotation option.
