Giacomo Raspadori Withdraws from Italy Squad Ahead of Nations League Clash with France
Giacomo Raspadori will miss Italy's upcoming Nations League matches against France and Turkiye due to injury. The Atalanta forward left the national team camp after medical checks confirmed he couldn't play in the scheduled fixtures.
Early Exit from Camp
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced on Tuesday evening that Raspadori would return to his club, leaving coach Roberto Mancini without one of his key attacking players for the international break. Tests by the Azzurri medical staff showed the player was not fit enough for the high-pressure games ahead.
Raspadori had to leave at halftime during Italy’s 4-1 Nations League win over Turkiye because of the injury. This adds to Italy's fitness worries following Nicolo Zaniolo's earlier withdrawal from the squad.
Official Statement from FIGC
The federation stated: "Giacomo Raspadori was given complete rest. After undergoing medical tests, it was confirmed he will be unavailable for the upcoming matches and will return to his club."
Tactical Preparations Continue Without Raspadori
Despite losing Raspadori, the team stayed upbeat after their strong performance in Bursa. Back at Coverciano, preparations for the upcoming match against France began immediately. Mancini split training sessions to manage players’ workloads, focusing recovery on those who played heavily in the last game.
Meanwhile, the players who did not travel to Turkiye, plus fringe squad members, took part in intense tactical drills at Fiorentina’s Viola Park. These included focused attack-versus-defence exercises aimed at keeping the squad fresh for the visit to Stade de France.
Forward Line Pressure Intensifies
Raspadori’s absence comes as Italy's goal-scoring effectiveness is being closely examined. Their recent four-goal victory over Turkiye helped ease some pressure, but losing a player known for technical skill and movement is a blow. Mancini now faces a decision on whether to bring in a replacement or rely on existing squad depth.
