Erling Haaland scored twice to help Manchester City claim a 2-0 victory against Porto in their Champions League opener. The Norwegian striker’s goals brought him level with Sergio Aguero as City's joint-top scorer in the competition.

Haaland Praises Team’s Resilience

"It was a difficult fight, man against man. They are a top team, honestly they are impressive," Haaland told Amazon Prime. "They play amazing football so well done to them, but with all the pressure we had to deliver on the biggest stage. That's what we did today."

He noted that although Porto created pressure, City controlled much of the first half and generated several chances. Even when Porto pressed hard for about 25 minutes, City held firm to secure the win.

Matching a Club Legend’s Record

With these two goals, Haaland has now scored 36 Champions League goals for Manchester City, equaling the record held by club legend Sergio Aguero in just 40 appearances. He emphasized the squad’s mindset:

"We have to demand a lot from each other, and we have to win games. At Man City you have to win games and you have to win trophies."

Asked if Maresca would be pleased with the team’s performance in such a hostile environment, Haaland said, "I hope so. We win away with a difficult game. Look at this atmosphere it was unreal at times. I hope he's happy."

After four consecutive wins in all competitions, City turn their attention back to the Premier League. Haaland’s form will be crucial as they prepare for a key clash against local rivals Manchester United this weekend.
