Inter Milan Closing In On £30m Deal for Curtis Jones
Inter Milan are edging towards a deal for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, with a fee of around 35m euros (£30m) expected to seal his exit from Anfield.
Liverpool knocked back a verbal offer of 25m euros (£21.7m) from the Italian champions in June, holding firm to a valuation of about £35m for the 25-year-old, who has just one year left on his current contract. That stance has forced Inter to move closer to Liverpool’s asking price.
Now the gap appears to be closing. A package worth £30m is understood to be the figure that could unlock an agreement between the clubs. Sources in Italy believe a verbal understanding is already in place, but both sides insist there are still details to iron out before anything is signed.
Liverpool are prepared to cash in, provided the structure of the deal reflects the £30m package Inter paid Tottenham for Djed Spence. That transfer has become a clear reference point in negotiations, with the Premier League club keen not to undersell a homegrown player who has been part of their first-team picture for several seasons.
Inter’s interest is not new. The Serie A side tried to bring Jones in during the January window on a loan with an option to buy, only for Liverpool to reject the proposal. This time, they are pushing for a permanent move.
Jones has made 228 appearances for Liverpool since his debut under Jurgen Klopp in 2019, a symbol of the club’s academy pathway into the senior side. Last season he featured 49 times in all competitions, but only started 18 Premier League games and struggled to nail down a regular midfield role under Arne Slot.
Now, with one year left on his deal and Inter circling with serious money, Liverpool face a familiar modern dilemma: hold on to a long-serving midfielder for depth, or bank a sizeable fee and reshape the squad again.
