Inter Faces Udinese Without Calhanoglu Due to Adductor Injury

Inter head into Monday night’s Serie A clash with Udinese missing one of their most reliable pillars in midfield. Hakan Calhanoglu has been left out of Cristian Chivu’s matchday squad due to muscular fatigue in his adductor, pre-match reports confirm.

The game at San Siro is one of three fixtures on a packed Monday schedule in Serie A, alongside Torino vs. Roma and Como vs. Parma in the earlier kick-off slots. Inter, though, must quickly adjust to life without their metronome at the base of midfield, at least for the night.

Calhanoglu ruled out, Roma in doubt

Calhanoglu’s absence is precautionary but significant. Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the Turkish international is dealing with adductor fatigue, enough for Chivu and the medical staff to remove him from the squad entirely rather than risk a minor problem becoming something more serious.

The early indications are reassuring for Inter. This is not currently viewed as a long-term setback, and the club will monitor him on a day-by-day basis. Yet one question hangs over the week: will he be ready for Saturday evening’s high-profile Serie A showdown with Roma? For now, there is no clear answer.

New look in the middle

Without Calhanoglu, Chivu has reshaped his engine room. Inter will start with a midfield trio of Nicolo Barella, Piotr Zielinski and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, a technically gifted unit but one that naturally changes the team’s dynamics.

Zielinski is expected to drop into the deepest role, tasked with orchestrating from in front of the defence, the position usually owned by Calhanoglu. Barella’s energy and Mkhitaryan’s intelligence between the lines will have to compensate for the missing rhythm and set-piece threat that the Turkish playmaker normally brings.

Inter have coped with absences before. This one, though, arrives at the start of a crucial week.
