Jacy’s timing – perfect for his run into the box, disastrous for his celebration – meant he landed not on solid ground, but into a gap that should not normally have been there.
Once the dust settled, the defender moved to reassure fans. Writing on social media, he described the incident as more of a fright than anything else. He admitted that during the match his foot hurt enough that he could barely put weight on it, but said that by Monday he was feeling “much better” and recovering well.
The clip has circled the globe, filed instantly under football’s long catalogue of bizarre celebrations. Yet at Couto Pereira, it also stirred memories. This is not the first time a Coritiba player has vanished into that same tunnel mid-celebration. Back in 2014, Cameroonian striker Joel Tagueu suffered an almost identical fate, tumbling into the very same access area after scoring for the club.

Coritiba will be relieved that this latest episode seems to have ended with bruised pride more than serious injury, and that the scoreboard still shows three points and a 2-1 win. Jacy, a defender who doesn’t “score many goals” by his own admission, will know that his next one – if and when it comes – will be celebrated with a little more caution.
Or perhaps not. Because in a sport obsessed with control, tactics and fine margins, it was one uncontrolled leap that turned an ordinary league match into a story the Brasileirao will be replaying for years.
