Jaissle Optimistic on Schär, Livramento, and Miley as Newcastle Eyes Reinforcements

Newcastle United may have fallen 3-1 to Everton in Edinburgh, but Matthias Jaissle walked away from the pre-season friendly with something far more important than a result: progress on three key injuries.

Fabian Schär, out since January, is edging towards a return that would significantly bolster Newcastle’s back line. The experienced defender is now close to rejoining full team training, and Jaissle made it clear the wait is almost over.

"He's on the way back now," the Newcastle manager said after the defeat in Scotland. "Hopefully in the next days he will be included in the team training, and then we need to see if he gets some minutes already in the weekend."

For a squad that leaned heavily on its defensive core last season, even the hint of Schär featuring in the next friendly is a major lift.

The good news does not stop there. Tino Livramento and Lewis Miley are tracking a similar path, both moving steadily through their recoveries and, crucially, not far behind Schär in the schedule.

"A bit of the same, I would say, like with Fabian," Jaissle explained. "Also we're hoping that in the next days they can be integrated in the team sessions, and hopefully also will get some minutes then."

Three players, one message: Newcastle expect to be closer to full strength very soon.

Transfer window promise

While the medical room begins to clear, attention naturally drifts to the other side of squad building. Jaissle did not go into specifics on targets, but he did not hide his belief that Newcastle will add to the group before the window closes.

"I will be always consistent with my approach," he said. "We handle these things internally, we are aware of what we need, and as you know, there's still some time."

In other words, the work is ongoing, quietly and deliberately. With Schär, Livramento and Miley nearing a return and new signings expected, Newcastle’s pre-season story is starting to look less about a 3-1 scoreline in Edinburgh and more about the squad that will walk out on opening day.
