Jamal Musiala Provides Update on Health After Neurological Diagnosis
Jamal Musiala says he is “doing well” after being diagnosed with a neurological issue that caused two worrying on-field episodes in recent days.
The Bayern Munich midfielder addressed supporters directly on his Instagram channel after twice needing medical attention within four days.
Two scares in four days
On Saturday, Musiala appeared to collapse off the ball during Bayern’s friendly against RB Leipzig, a moment that sent a jolt through the Allianz Arena and social media alike. He was able to leave the pitch, and Bayern later included him in Vincent Kompany’s squad for the final pre-season warm-up against Heidenheim on Tuesday.
His return, though, was brief. Introduced from the bench in the second half, Musiala was forced off again only minutes later, this time walking away accompanied by medical staff. Concern around the 21-year-old intensified.
The Germany international chose to address that concern himself.
“Brief, temporary but readily treatable”
“First things first – I’m doing well. I’m especially grateful for all your messages and your support,” he wrote, before explaining the diagnosis.
“I understand that many of you are worried. Today, I’d like to put your minds at ease and explain the situation a little: I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary but readily treatable absences, which are caused by a neurological dysfunction.
“These can lead to the episodes that have occurred recently, such as against Leipzig and now in Heidenheim.”
Musiala acknowledged how alarming the incidents might have looked from the outside, but stressed that he is being closely monitored and feels positive about his treatment.
“I know that they may seem scary at first glance – but for me, they are currently part of my everyday life. I am receiving the best possible medical treatment for this and I am very optimistic. FC Bayern and the people close to me are always by my side and supporting me on this journey.
“The important thing is that there is no further health risk beyond this.”
Determined to keep playing
Despite the diagnosis, Musiala made it clear he intends to keep playing, stressing that this has been agreed with specialists.
“In close consultation and regular communication with the specialists, it was my personal wish to face this challenge and, with the approval of the neurological specialists, to continue doing what helps me most in my recovery: simply getting on with my everyday life and continuing to pursue my passion of playing football.
“I have taken responsibility for that decision. Overall, I have a very good feeling and I’m on the right track. What helps me most on this journey is continuing to chase victories and titles with my team, with your fantastic support.”
The statement underlined both his competitive drive and his desire to manage the condition on his own terms, within the framework set by medical experts and the club.
Privacy, but a clear message
Musiala finished by asking for understanding as he tries to keep the matter as private as possible.
“I hope this helps you understand me a little better. At the same time, I ask for your understanding that I would like to continue keeping this matter within the circle of my closest confidants, the club and the experts.”
Bayern’s young star has laid out the situation in his own words. The next chapter will unfold on the pitch, where he still intends to chase trophies in Bayern colours.
