Jim Goodwin Returns to Dundee United Dugout After Medical Absence

Jim Goodwin will return to the Dundee United dugout this weekend after a three-week medical absence that briefly jolted Tannadice.

The 44-year-old manager was admitted to hospital at the end of August with an undisclosed condition, before being discharged and returning home on 1 September. He has since been recovering away from day-to-day duties, watching on as his staff steered the team through a crucial early stretch of the Scottish Premiership campaign.

Goodwin is now set to resume full responsibilities, starting with Friday’s pre-match media duties ahead of Saturday’s meeting with St Mirren.

From the stands earlier this month, the Irishman watched United’s draw with Falkirk, unable to influence matters from the technical area while assistant Lee Sharp took charge on the touchline. Sharp has overseen three Premiership fixtures since Goodwin fell ill, returning a perfectly balanced record: one win, one draw and one defeat.

That steady hand kept United on course. Now the manager is back, just as the season begins to harden and the margins start to matter.
