John Mousinho Furious Over Incident with Krystian Bielik

Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho has revealed he was “absolutely furious” over the position he found himself in after an incident involving Krystian Bielik and a supporter during Saturday’s win over Cardiff City.

The flashpoint came late in the second half, as Cardiff defender Bielik went to collect the ball from the crowd. What should have been a routine restart turned ugly, with the Polish defender becoming involved in a physical altercation with a fan.

Hampshire Police later confirmed they had opened an investigation into an incident “in which a teenage boy was reportedly the victim of a common assault”.

In the immediate aftermath of the game, Mousinho apologised to Cardiff’s players and condemned the behaviour of the supporters involved. At that stage, he was working only from what he had been told.

By midweek, the picture had changed.

Speaking on Wednesday, ahead of Portsmouth’s clash with Charlton, Mousinho explained that his post-match comments were made without having seen the incident himself.

“I've now seen the footage and my comments post-match were entirely based off what I was told,” he told BBC Radio Solent.

When the confrontation erupted, Mousinho’s view from the touchline was blocked. Information came to him via the referee.

“When the altercation kicked off I couldn't see it from where I was myself, the referee then spoke to us and his words at the time were very clear that he had seen the incident in its entirety.

“He said that as Krystian went over to get the ball, the fan slapped him, and a second fan threw a ball at Perry Ng's head.”

Mousinho’s anger stems from that sequence: an incident he could not see, an account he trusted in the heat of the moment, and the fallout that has followed with police now involved and footage offering a fuller view of what unfolded by the touchline.
