Inter's Josep Martinez Confident in Italy's Revival After World Cup Setbacks

Josep Martinez, the goalkeeper for Inter Milan, has expressed strong faith in Italy’s ability to bounce back after missing three consecutive World Cups. Despite the setbacks, he believes the national team still possesses top-tier talent under the guidance of coach Roberto Mancini.

Quality Remains Despite Recent Challenges

Martinez sees the recent failures as more a psychological issue than a reflection of the players' abilities. Missing out on three straight World Cup tournaments has shaken the confidence of the four-time world champions. Mancini is now focused on rebuilding the squad, introducing young players to restore Italy’s identity on the field.

Confidence Overcomes Crisis

Having competed alongside Italy’s best in Serie A, Martinez insists the technical level remains high. Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he said:

"Honestly, I see a lot of potential in Italy. They need to rediscover a defined playing model, but there’s no lack of quality. There are several high-level Inter players and many other valid elements with them. They need to regain confidence after the disappointment of missing the World Cup; for me, it’s more a mental thing than a quality issue."

Martinez's Return to International Duty

Alongside his positive comments on Italy, Martinez recently earned a recall to the Spanish national team after several years. The 28-year-old was called back by Luis de la Fuente following an injury to Joan Garcia. He will join other goalkeepers David Raya and Unai Simon in the squad.

Upcoming Test Against France

Italy’s true challenge lies ahead as they prepare to face France at the Stade de France in the UEFA Nations League Group A1. This match will test the new generation under Mancini’s leadership against a strong French side coached by Zinedine Zidane. A good result in Paris is crucial to boost morale and maintain hopes of advancing to the knockout rounds.
